Successful participation in Challenge Peguera 2017

Justus Nieschlag and Heather Wurtele win the Challenge Peguera Mallorca 2017


A spectacular climate with a bright sunshine and a calm Peguera Bay received the 1,000 participants in the main event of Challenge Peguera 2017, the middle distance triathlon.


In the men's category, the German Justus Nieschlag gave a master class of triathlon, with a perfect race in which he dominated with wide advantage all segments. The podium was completed by the Austrian Thomas Steger (2nd position) and the Spaniard Iñaki Baldellou (3rd). 

Justus came out of the water in only 23m: 16s, completed the bike circuit alone with a time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 14 seconds, to end a half marathon in 1 hour 16 minutes and 14 seconds. The overall time at the finish line was 3:50:56.


The second and third place of the podium was changing hands until the run segment, where the Austrian Thomas Steger with a time of 1:14:05 climbed to the second position, and the Catalan Iñaki Baldellou with a time of 1:15 : 31 managed to complete the podium.

Heather Wurtele won smiling


In the women's category, Heather Wurtele won the Challenge Peguera Mallorca. After a swimming dominated by the German Anja Knapp, the Spanish Marta Sánchez and the British Fenella Langridge, Wurtele took the lead in the first kilometres of the circuit and did not leave that position. Her advantage was growing and only the good rhythm of the Belgian Katrien Verstuyft and the comeback of the Dutch woman Yvonne Van Vlerken could worry the Canadian.

Finally, the half marathon decided and a smiling Heather Wurtele crossed the finish line with a time of 4:24:42, followed in second position by Katrien Verstuyft and Yvonne Van Vlerken.

Successful event


Great success with more than 1500 participants in the different races of the sporting challenge. Thus, the 2017 edition becomes the most multitudinous of the event and a reference for the conclusion of the triathlon season of the international public, which accounts for 85% of the total.

Calvià Town Hall, Calvià Foundation and the Hotel Association of Peguera and Cala Fornells, organisers of the event, would like to thank all those who have made it possible, especially to participants, volunteers, security forces and civil protection, sponsors, as well as the Agència de Turisme de les Illes Balears.
