The Police intensifies its presence in Peguera

Thursday, 30th November 2017

INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

THE POLICE INTENSIFIES ITS PRESENCE IN PEGUERA DURING THE WEEKEND TO PREVENT FIGHTS BETWEEN GROUPS

The agents of Calvià want to avoid revenges, fights and urban furniture damage as those that some young people caused last weekend near the Boulevard

Next weekend the Local Police of Calvià will have a special presence as a preventive action against the youth groups that carried out violent acts during the early hours of last Sunday in Peguera. The measure has been taken to discourage new fights, which take on special relevance since it is largely a matter of minors who frequent the same leisure business. Some of the teenagers who participated in the brawls last week have been identified. The Civil Guard has initiated an investigation to clarify the events that took place.
Through threats in telematic means it has been known that new fights are expected to occur. According to testimonies of the facts, they are young people from Palma and villages organised in two groups.
During the night from 25th to 26th November, about 40 teenagers from different groups were involved in fights and caused damage on their way through Eucaliptus Street, Mercè Rodorera, Boulevar de Peguera until reaching Palmira beach. It seems that these young people, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, used sticks to cause damage in three cafeterias, a restaurant and a booth selling boat tickets. Basically there are broken plant pots, but also doors and windows.
The number of fights in which the Local Police of Calvià has to intervene significantly decreases the months in which there is less floating population in the municipality. However, they still happen around certain nightlife venues.
The Local Police of Calvià maintains presence during the low season to avoid the consumption of alcohol on the street near the youth leisure premises of the municipality. In addition, the traffic division of the Local Police conducts periodic alcohol checks amongst drivers who come to these centres.
