THE CALVIÀ TOWN COUNCIL OPENS A PERIOD OF PARTICIPATION FOR CALVIÀ NEIGHBOURS TO DO THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NEW CITIZEN PARTICIPATION ORDINANCE
The objective is that the new ordinance is adapted to the current reality, to the new channels and spaces for citizen participation
The Town Hall of Calvià opens a period of participation for residents of Calvià to make contributions to the new Citizen Participation Ordinance in whose drafting a technical commission has been working. The deputy mayor of Citizen Participation and Youth, Fernando Alcaraz, who chairs the commission, explained that it was decided to open to the public, in addition to the period of public exposure and prior consultations already made to the neighbourhood associations of the municipality, another new period of consultation to collect contributions, thoughts and to inform the neighbours of Calvià of the proposal for a new Citizen Participation Ordinance, which includes the different citizen participation bodies regulating the different forms, processes and mechanisms to channel citizen participation in the municipality. The reason for this new consultation period is precisely to ensure that the ordinance is as participatory as possible before it is approved by the Plenary.
The Town Hall of Calvià understands citizen participation as a fundamental option for the functioning of the municipality, considering that it is necessary to review the Citizen Participation Ordinance that was approved in 1993. It is intended, therefore, that the new ordinance is adapted to the current reality, to new channels and spaces for citizen participation, as well as including all the relevant regulations on the subject that has been developed throughout this time.
During these years the channels and spaces for citizen participation and representation have changed,with new technologies, e-mail and participatory websites taking a very important role for citizen participation combined with meeting spaces for thought and citizen dialogue in the form of assemblies, meetings, citizen councils and other forms of citizen participation.
The Town Hall of Calvià already has experience in the development of citizen participation initiatives, consultations and participatory budgets that have opened the way to a new model of governance in the municipality, capable of enhancing the active role of citizens and involving them in all those relevant aspects that concern and affect the management of municipal life. At the same time, the Town Hall of Calvià aims to regulate and boost volunteering in the municipality as the maximum expression of citizen participation.
