25 Tons of waste removed from sanitation network

Friday, 5th January 2018

CALVIÀ 2000 EXTRACTS 25 TONS OF SOLID WASTE IN THE ANNUAL CLEANING OF WASTEWATER PUMPING STATIONS

In Calvià there are 77 pumping stations that drive the waste water to the sewage treatment plants

This year 140 lorry hours have been dedicated to this waste removal

Calvià 2000 has extracted around 25 tons of solid waste from the Calvià wastewater pumping stations (EBAR), during the in-depth cleaning tasks of these facilities. This is a preventive maintenance action that is performed annually, usually during the last two months of the year, and consists of cleaning the bottom of the pit where the pumps are located.
In this cleaning, carried out by means by lorries that suck the accumulated dirt, waste is removed such as wet hygienic towels (they do not break up or disperse), sand, grease, pieces of asphalt and wood, rags, hairs, remains of building works and others waste that is improperly discharged into the sanitation network. This year, 140 lorry hours have been dedicated to these tasks.
Given the orography of Calvià, the function of the EBAR is vital, since they drive the wastewater generated mainly on the coast to the treatment plants located in the interior of the municipality. Calvià 2000 maintains a total of 77 stations, of which 75% have 2 impulsion pumps. The largest EBARs are Santa Ponça 1, with 6 pumps, and Palmanova, with 8.
