19,929 kg of waste from the coast and seabed

CALVIÀ TAKES STOCK AND PREPARES THE COASTAL CONSERVATION ACTIONS WITH COLLABORATING ENTITIES


Both, cleaning activities in torrent streams and the participation in the Observers of the Sea and Eurogreenweek project are proposed, as novelties, for this year 2018.


Calvià Town Hall has started the meetings to prepare the coastal conservation actions that will be carried out this year. From the Ajuntament de Calvià it is considered very important to continue promoting clean-up actions and citizen awareness as those that were carried out last year. A total of
19,929 kg of waste were collected from the coast and the seabed of Calvià coastline in the thirteen actions carried out in 2017. It counted on the important collaboration of different entities and associations amongst which are diving clubs, marinas, hotel associations of the municipality, etc., as well as with the participation of more than 600 volunteers.

During the meeting, a review was made of the main campaigns carried out last year, as well as the proposals for 2018, in which are introduced, as novelties, cleaning activities in torrent streams, take part in the European Eugreenweek project, and participate in the Observers of the Sea programme paying special attention to the location of Pinna nobilis (also known as the noble pen shell or fan mussel). It was also exposed the will of the Town Hall to continue with the work of raising citizen awareness regarding the protection of the Posidonia oceanica seagrass and to maintain environmental education activities aimed at schoolchildren and students.


Last Friday, there was a meeting called by the councillor for Natural Environment, Francisca Muñoz, who welcomed the attendees, and Marcos Pecos, deputy mayor for Urbanism, Trade, Citizen Participation and Youth, who thanked the work done by the entities. The meeting was attended by the hotel associations of Palmanova-Magaluf, Illetes- Cas Català and Santa Ponça, the marinas of Port Adriano, Puerto Portals, the Yacht Club of Santa Ponça, as well as the Palma Diving, Ondine, Palomondrius, Apnea Mallorca, Isurus, Zoea Mallorca, Creu Roja Illes Balears, Marineland-Asproocio entities, the Fundació Joves Navegants, the association of volunteers Protemar and representatives of Civil Protection and Calvià 2000.
