Entorn magazine issue 7 presentation

 Friday 9th March 2018

THE NEW ISSUE OF ENTORN MAGAZINE FOCUSES ON THE GIRLS' SCHOOLS OF CALVIÀ, THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN ART AND FEMINISM

The informative publication also analyses the pre-turistic era, the first women's strike, the equality policies, music or the perspective of young people

A new issue of the monographic magazine 'Entorn de Calvià', dedicated especially to Women, was presented this afternoon within the activities organised by Calvià Town Hall to celebrate the Working Women's Day. The event took place in Palmanova, in which the mayor of the municipality, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, stressed that the publication meets the objectives of consolidating a memory, a tradition, a history of the municipality, and the social and cultural activity of the village of Calvià. In addition, the mayor had some words of remembrance for the journalist Joana Maria Roque, former worker of Calvià Town Hall and one of the promoters and coordinator of the Entorn magazine.

Issue number 7 of the magazine Entorn includes in its content original investigation articles that review aspects like the demographic censuses, the teachers of the municipality before the dictatorship, or the presence of women in the artistic patrimony of Calvià Town Hall. It also offers interviews with significant women, and reviews aspects such as feminism in the Middle Ages, the perspectives of equality, sexist violence, women in the rondalles, women dedicated to music, the first women's strike and the Kellis, and the old cleaning women's cooperative Oh! Limpia. It also includes a section on the perspective of the youths of the municipality on the subject and reviews on publications of toponymy and anthoponymy of Calvià, and women olive collectors.

The magazine Entorn, which is published since 2013, dedicates each issue to a specific topic and is written by civil servants of the Town Hall and external collaborations. Thus, the previous editions have focused on the environment, art, territory architecture, gastronomy, cinema and tourism.

At the end of the event, the 'Romeo and Juliet 2.0' bar theatre play took place, in which the protagonists invert traditional roles offering a theatre play with an innovative gender perspective. The work carried out by Marga Arrom and directed by Àlex Tejedor, has been performed by Pedro Orell and Catalina Rosell.
