2018 tourist season preparatory meeting

 Monday 12th March 2018

THE CALVIÀ TOWN HALL AND THE GOVERNMENT DELEGATION MEET WITH THE BRITISH CONSULATE TO REINFORCE THE COLLABORATION FOR THE 2018 TOURIST SEASON

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, met this morning with the Government delegate, María Salom, and the Consul of the United Kingdom in the Balearic Islands, Lloyd Milen, at the headquarters of the Government Delegation, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the institutions for the 2018 tourist season, especially in terms of security in areas such as Punta Ballena, where a large number of young British tourism is concentrated.

Amongst other issues, the situation in which British women tourists who temporarily exercise public relations in nightlife areas without a contract has been discussed. In this regard, both the Local Police of Calvià and the Civil Guard, who work in a coordinated manner in the nightlife areas of the municipality, have emphasised the importance of reporting these possible cases of irregularities in the workplace and that it is also informed in the country of origin that this practice is not legally allowed in Spain.

In Calvià, a municipal ordinance regulates the dynamic advertising activity that forces locals to obtain a licence and pay a fee to be able to have public relations, and be correctly identified.

The meeting was also attended by the deputy mayor for Security, Andreu Serra, the head of the Local Police of Calvià, Justino Trenas, and the general director of Security, José Antonio Fernández, as well as the colonel chief of the Civil Guard in the islands, Jaume Barceló, and the British vice-consul, Lucy Gorman.
