Local Security Board Meeting

 Friday 13th April 2018

INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ AND CIVIL GUARD INCREASE THE COORDINATION DEVICES FOR SPECIAL EVENTS

They will also work as a team to monitor the practice of Party Boats

At the Local Security Board meeting held this morning at Calvià Town Hall it was concluded that the coordination between the Local Police and the Civil Guard is necessary to attend relevant events such as the Smart Island (23
rd and 24th April), the Mallorca Football Tournament (from 3rd to 7th May), the Mallorca Live Festival (11th and 12th May) and the Football World Cup matches (at least three matches of the English national team are scheduled on the 18th, 24th and 28th June).

On the other hand, the Calvià consistory aims to eradicate the practice of Party Boats, as this booze tourism causes numerous inconveniences to citizens when they disembark on the Calvià coast. In this sense, the Guardia Civil maritime service has offered its collaboration in the surveillance of security measures, licenses, maximum capacity, or possible drug consumption. Both institutions will meet shortly to specify the action coordination that has to be carried out.

The Local Security Board has had the participation of the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez; the delegate of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Maria Salom; the general director of emergencies of the Balearic Government, Pere Perelló; the deputy mayor, Andreu Serra; the Colonel Chief of the Civil Guard in the Balearic Islands, Jaume Barceló; and the local Police Chief, Justino Trenas; along with other chief security officers.

With the advance of the tourist season, this year the Local Police of Calvià has also advanced two weeks the reinforcement in beaches that begins next Monday 16th April. In addition, as of 1st May, night patrols will be increased, especially in Punta Ballena and other points that may be conflictive. The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez, stressed: "we try to go together with the reality of our tourist season, which fortunately starts earlier and starts with more volume, and we must respond from the field of security because it is a differentiating element of our tourist destination. "

During the low season, the Calvià Town Hall has approved to increase the sanctions of the Coexistence Ordinance regulations in order to discourage uncivil behaviour. This measure has been collected by the main newspapers of the United Kingdom, such as The Sun, the Daily Mail or the Mirror. On the other hand, the Local Police of Calvià has carried out two campaigns: one to promote safety in shops and another one warning of regulations on the sale, consumption, and advertising of alcohol.
