Posidonia raising awareness workshops

 Monday 2nd July 2018

THE POSIDONIA OCEANICA RAISING AWARENESS WORKSHOPS RETURN TO CALVIÀ

The Posidonia Oceanica raising awareness workshops, organised by the Calvià Town Hall, through the Urban and Natural Environment Department, with the collaboration of Creu Roja Illes Balears, return this summer to the municipality. The campaign will be carried out on different beaches of the Calvià coast during the summer months.

On the one hand, it is planned to carry out 26 information and environmental 'surveillance' actions, every Tuesday and Friday, at the beach of Portals Vells, from 5 to 7 p.m. The objective is to raise awareness and inform about the regulation of natural areas and protected species, with special emphasis on the Posidonia Oceanica, offering vessels near the coast recommendations to carry out responsible anchorages. The Red Cross volunteers who participate in this campaign use kayaks as a means of transport and, in addition, they carry out coast line clean-ups and distribute informative material.

More actions that will be carried out are the environmental education workshops. Specifically, 6 workshops will be held at the following beaches:

 -12th July, Palmira beach (Peguera)

-26th July, el Toro beach

-9th August, Santa Ponça beach

-23rd August, Son Maties beach

-6th September, es Carregador beach (Palmanova)

-20th September, s'Oratori beach (Portals Nous)

In these workshops, people can discover, through games, the different species that are found on the Mediterranean coast as well as the waste that threatens the environment and the effects it has on the natural environment and fauna, and how waste affects the most vulnerable or endangered species, as well as the effects of fishing.
