CALVIÀ LAUNCHES, FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR, THE PROGRAMME FOR THE REUSE OF SCHOOL BOOKS WITH A GLOBAL AID OF 60,000 EUROS

The Town Hall also offers grants for the start of the school year

The Calvià Town Hall promotes, for the third consecutive year, the project of reuse of school books in the schools and institutes of the municipality, with a total contribution of 60,000 euros.

During the 2016-2017 academic year and with the involvement of the entire educational community, the programme for the reuse of books and didactic material was launched through the coordination and granting of aid to public schools and institutes, in compulsory education, for the progressive creation of a book fund.

The programme consists of the creation of a fund of books and didactic material owned by the centre that draws on the financial contributions of families and the Calvià Town Hall in order to acquire the material for students to use and reuse them during a minimum of 4 years. To begin with, the purchase of 5th and 6th grade primary and 1st and 2nd ESO books was prioritised in the institutes, extending the following years to the rest of the courses.

The reuse of books and other teaching materials reduces the economic burden on families, deepens the idea of sustainability, as well as guaranteeing equal opportunities within the framework of a quality education system, as well as fulfilling other objectives such as fostering values of responsible conservation of material, recycling, cooperation, solidarity, the ability to share available resources and give the opportunity to build a social fabric in the school that promotes cooperation between families, teachers and students.

In addition to this grant for the reuse of textbooks and teaching materials, the Calvià Town Hall contributes 126,910 euros for aid for the start of the school year. These grants are offered to families of primary and compulsory secondary school students enrolled in public schools.
