 Wednesday 12th September 2018

NORMALITY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CALVIÀ

A total of 5,611 students have returned today to the classrooms in the centres of Calvià, of which 1,088 are in early childhood education, 2,356 in primary education, 1,620 in secondary education and 547 in high school. Figures that can be increased as, according to the municipality's school office, the arrival of new students is constant in the first days of the course.

The 490 vocational students will start their classes on 21
st September.

The Calvià Town Hall has invested 118,000 euros this summer in refurbishment works and improvements in the pre-education and primary education centres. Works have been carried out to replace blinds, paint the interior and exterior of centres, fix deficiencies in electrical installations or change boilers, amongst others. In these last three years, the Town Hall has invested a total of 771,943 euros in refurbishments and improvements.

One more year, the Town Hall has promoted the textbook reuse programme in schools and high schools of the municipality, with a total contribution of 60,000 euros, with the involvement of the entire educational community.

On the other hand, school transport has also been launched for high school students of the 3 IES of Calvià, displacing a total of 230 students daily. This service is put into operation by the Ajuntament de Calvià, with its own funds, since it is not covered by the Department of Education and University, which covers transport in mandatory stages. For this course, the investment is 211,365 euros.

The incorporation to the classrooms has proceeded normally and the local police of Calvià has not registered any incidence in the centres' entrance and exit control.
