Agreement to clean-up torrents

Wednesday 25th September 2019

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL AND THE REGIONAL MINISTRY FOR ENVIRONMENT AND TERRITORY WILL SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO CLEAN-UP TORRENTS

About 5 km of torrents were cleaned up in the municipality in 2018

Calvià Town Hall and the Regional Ministry for Environment and Territory will soon sign an agreement to carry out cleaning tasks in the torrents of the municipality, to continue with the work that is being done.

The deputy mayor for Environment, Rafel Sedano, and the councillor for Environment, Marga Plomer, have met this week with the director general of Water Resources, Joana Maria Garau, to arrange this agreement, following a request that was made from the Town Hall on 16th September.

The agreement will determine the torrent sections that must be cleaned by the local Administration and those that should be the responsibility of the Regional Ministry, as well as the timetable for carrying out the actions.

About 10 km of torrents were cleaned-up during the last legislature, of which 4,893 m took place in 2018: 1 km on Costa d'en Blanes torrent (Portals Nous), 790 m on Galatzó torrent (Santa Ponça) and 3, 1 km on Torà torrent (Peguera).

For its part, Calvià Town Hall performs, regularly, before and during the high season, clean-ups on the torrent mouth of Santa Ponça. These works are carried out through the public company Calvià 2000, which also carries out cleaning tasks on the coast and in the culverts of Palmira beach (Peguera) and Magaluf beach, in order to avoid water retentions.
