CALVIÀ TOWN HALL ESTABLISHES THE III CHILDHOOD COUNCIL

The Children's Plenary has taken place coinciding with the International Children's Rights Day

Coinciding with the International Children's Rights Day, the Calvià Town Hall has held the Children's Plenary in which the new councillors have taken office. A total of 36 boys and girls have represented the eleven primary schools of Calvià. On this occasion, the municipal participation body of the municipality has had representatives of all the pre-school and primary education centres in the municipality.

During the course the Plenary session, people responsible for different municipal departments of the Town Hall have responded to the different requests made by the Childhood Council of Calvià during the previous year. Families have also participated in the event with the reading of Children's Rights.

Amongst the proposals, it has been requested that the fruit campaign in schools lasts all year, that identification boxes are placed in municipal buildings so that children leave opinions, or that the councillors carry out a workshop on the childhood's rights for the youngest children of the school.

The councillors' challenge in the coming months and until the next Plenary, which will take place in May 2020, will be to be involved in the execution of the agreed proposals to work on the relationship between rights and responsibilities.

The Childhood Council is a space in which children of Calvià can give their opinion and participate in issues that affect them, apart from proposing improvements in the municipality. The third Childhood Council of Calvià represents a continuity with regards to the second, so it has been decided to call it “Nosaltres vivim, nosaltres decidim 2.0”.

Child participation is the best way to recognise boys and girls as full citizens, capable of interacting with their environment from a critical point of view, and suggesting proposals for the administration's improvement, thus providing added value to the general interest.
