Agreement to work on a recovery plan

Tuesday, 28th April 2020

THE FIVE POLITICAL GROUPS WITH REPRESENTATION IN THE PLENARY AGREED TO INITIATE THE DRAFTING OF AN ACTION PLAN FOR THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL RECOVERY OF THE MUNICIPALITY

The commitment will be reflected in an institutional declaration that will be approved in the next plenary session

The five political groups with municipal representation (PSOE, Podem-Més, Vox and Ciudadanos) have agreed to seek consensus for a social and political agreement for the implementation of a Municipal Action Plan for a social, economic and environmental recovery. This will be stated in an institutional Declaration that will be presented in the ordinary Plenary Session, next Thursday 30th April.

The agreement comes from the desire shown by the five groups as a result of the weekly meetings that, since the beginning of the state of alarm, the mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal called with the municipal spokespersons of the political groups, and the needs raised in the meetings that the mayor and the government team have held with various productive sectors of the municipality. Throughout these meetings, the measures that have been implemented have been discussed and the convenience of drawing up a municipal emergency action plan to face the current situation and lay the foundations for a future recovery has been raised, with an eye on job preservation, sustainability and respect for the environment.

Last 21st April, at the extraordinary Plenary Session, a first package of measures was unanimously approved related to the suppression of public rate payments, rate subsidies or the postponement of the tax payment voluntary period, to alleviate the effects of a practically paralysed economy in the municipality of Calvià. The forecasts of a more distant and gradual recovery of the tourist industry than the rest of the activities, means that they have to be complemented with other measures and actions to pave the way towards a recovery for workers, families, self-employed persons, companies and, in general, of all the citizens of Calvià.

It is in this context that the political groups with representation in the Plenary Session of the Calvià Town Hall will agree to start the process of proposing and discussing a Municipal Action Plan for a social, economic and environmental recovery in Calvià, which will be drafted after searching for consensus with the economic and social sectors involved, and of all the political forces represented in the Plenary.
