Ten patrol cars renew the police fleet

Monday, 29th June 2020

INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

TEN NEW PATROL CARS FOR THE LOCAL POLICE

The vehicles have been purchased through a renting system. They save on fuel consumption and are less polluting

Last Friday, at the Calvià Local Police Headquarters, ten new patrol cars that have been added to the fleet were on display. The mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the deputy mayor for Police, Nati Francés, and the chief of the Calvià Local Police, Francisco Darder attended the event. All the vehicles are Toyota and the amount of this investment is 125,000 euros per year. These cars have been acquired through a renting system with a five-year purchase option, which includes maintenance, repairs and replacement, if applicable, included.

Eight of the patrol vehicles are the Prius model, which will be assigned to the multipurpose and night police divisions and, as they have a greater capacity, and are equipped to transport detainees. On the other hand, two Corolla model vehicles without this equipment are for the use of police bosses.

The new fleet of cars is hybrid-powered (gasoline/electric), low-consumption and low-emission, which means reduced maintenance costs and pollution. It is important to take into account that each patrol car performs an average of 50 thousand kilometers a year.

The acquisition of new vehicles serves to replace part of the patrol cars of the previous contract that ended last year, and others with many years or mileage. There are currently 29 cars and 28 motorcycles, not counting the new ones, but a part will be unsubscribed. This year the renewal of the Calvià Local Police vehicle fleet will continue, both in cars and on motorcycles, in order to incorporate vehicles that are increasingly safer, more efficient and less polluting.
