Process for promoting Participation & Volunteering

Calvià, 20th July 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL INITIATES A PROCESS TO PROMOTE CITIZEN PARTICIPATION AND STRENGTHEN THE MUNICIPALITY'S VOLUNTEERING

A diagnosis will be carried out that will determine the proposals for action

The Calvià town Hall, through the Department of Citizen Participation and Youth, has started a process to enhance citizen participation and promote volunteering in the municipality, with the preparation of a diagnosis from which strategies can be defined to achieve greater citizen participation and the strengthening of volunteering.

This process will allow obtaining real data on the number of neighborhood and social entities active in the municipality, the main difficulties encountered in the situation generated by Covid-19 in order to carry out its task, the municipal support received and the synergies generated between entities.

Regarding volunteering, data will be obtained from how many entities and associations currently manage volunteering in the municipality, how many volunteers mobilise and how many of these entities have a volunteer plan. Regarding citizen initiatives, it will be possible to find out what kind of direct actions of good neighbourhood are carried out by the population of Calvià, how they value the social impact of these actions and what support they need from the Town Hall to carry out their initiatives.

As explained by the councillor for Citizen Participation and Youth, Marga Plomer, with all the information collected, a report will be generated that will serve to prepare the 2021 budgets and to develop strategies to improve the relationship with citizens and achieve greater participation, as well as obtaining proposals that can be be carried out from the Calvià Town Hall to strengthen Calvià's volunteering.

This task of preparing the diagnosis and proposing strategies and actions will be carried out by a company called GEST AMBIENTAL, with whom the Deputy Mayor Rafel Sedano signed a contract. GEST AMBIENTAL is made up of a team of specialists with experience in the world of municipal management and sustainability. Currently, they offer services on Environment, Citizen Participation and Open Government, Tourism and Quality, adapting to the new challenges posed by today's society.
