CALVIÀ SIGNS TWO COLLABORATION AGREEMENTS WITH FONS MALLORQUÍ DE SOLIDARITAT

The agreements, of 10.000 euros each, are to contribute to solidarity projects in the Saharawi camps of Tindouf and in Afghanistan

Calvià Town Hall has signed two agreements with Fons Mallorquí de Solidaritat to finance cooperation projects carried out for integral human development.

Specifically, a collaboration agreement has been signed to contribute to the objectives of the Fund for aid in Afghanistan, through the NGO HAWCA, with an amount of 10.000 euros, aimed at emergency aid for refugees, displaced and demobilised people from Afghanistan, especially for women and children, who are the most vulnerable part of the population and who may see their rights more affected given the current situation.

The other agreement, also of 10.000 euros, is to contribute to the Associació d'Amics del Poble Sahrauí project to cover the basic food needs of the refugee population in the Tindouf camps. Currently, 88% of refugees are in a situation of vulnerability due to the Covid-19 crisis. The project aims to send the resources to the Saharawi Red Crescent, which will be in charge of acquiring the most necessary food products. The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the president of Fons Mallorquí de Solidaritat, Maria Antònia Mulet, have signed the agreements, with the attendance of the vice president of the Associació d'Amics del Poble Sahrauí, Ventura Vaquer; the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion, Nati Francés, and the councillor for Social Development, M. Carmen Rojano.
