The agreement is completed with activities for the promotion, research, protection, restoration and dissemination of Calvià's marine biodiversity

Calvià Town Hall and Palma Aquarium Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement this morning with the aim of preserving and disseminating the natural marine heritage of the municipality.

The agreement signing event was attended, on behalf of the Town Hall, by the deputy mayor for Youth, Citizen Participation and Environment, Marga Plomer, and the councillor for Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano. And on behalf of Palma Aquarium, by Joan Rams and Debora Morrison president and director of the Palma Aquarium Foundation respectively.

Rafel Sedano has highlighted that what is pursued with the agreement signing is to contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of the Calvià coastline and its marine resources. A purpose that, he recalled, is part of the general objective of promoting the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level. Marga Plomer, who stressed the prime importance of the care for the environment, also thanked the Palma Aquarium Foundation for its work in this regard.

Joan Rams thanked the collaboration agreement with the Calvià Town Hall, which will allow the development of environmental actions, training sessions and sustainable dissemination. He also highlights the importance of collaboration between the public and private spheres, which is so necessary to achieve better results in terms of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Agreement's objectives

The objectives of the agreement that has been signed today, and which will be launched this month, focus on the following points:

The promotion of actions of innovation, research and promotion of marine biodiversity in the municipality of Calvià, especially those protected and threatened marine species in the sea belonging to the municipality.

Training for different municipal technical teams to, in a more coordinated and agile way, follow the protocols of action in the event of possible sightings or rescue of marine animals on the Calvià coast, thanks to the training they will carry out in the Environment service on protocols, in the case of rescue and release of marine fauna.

Put the Calvià vessel (municipal boat to use in environmental activities on the municipality's coastline), whenever possible, at the disposal of the entity for actions related to the object of the agreement, and therefore, allow speeding up rescue actions of Protected marine fauna on the Calvià coastline.

Collaborate in raising awareness and environmental education towards the conservation of Calvià marine resources, with campaigns and activities that will be carried out jointly.
