Tsitsipas wins the trophy in Santa Ponēa

Monday 27th June 2022

Stefanos Tsitsipas places his name alongside Daniil Medvedev's in the Mallorca Championships results. The Greek tennis player beat Roberto Bautista in a final match that was resolved, after two and a half hours, in the third set tie-break (6-4, 3-6, 7-6[2]).

The world No.6 closed out a great week at the Mallorca Country Club by winning his first ATP title on grass. The Athenian, who started as the second seeded player, already has nine victories in his career and the one from Santa Ponça (Calvià) is the second this year after achieving the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo.

His experience this week: “I see Mallorca stabilising as a tournament on the ATP calendar and I really hope to come every year. The location is spectacular. There is no better place than Mallorca to play just before Wimbledon”.

Rafael Matos and David Vega entered their names in the Mallorca Championships doubles record after beating Uruguayan Ariel Behar and Ecuadorian Gonzalo Escobar (7-6[5], 6-7[6] and 10-1).

The match, which lasted two hours and 22 minutes, allowed the duo formed by the Brazilian and the Spaniard to succeed the Italian Simone Bolelli and the Argentinian Máximo González as winners of the first edition.
