584.000 euros for schools/nurseries improvements

Tuesday 20th September 2022

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL HAS INVESTED FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR CLOSE TO 584.840 EUROS IN IMPROVING NURSERIES AND PRIMARY EDUCATION CENTRES AND THE AIR CONDITIONING OF NURSERY SCHOOLS

The bulk of the actions focuses on the remodeling of bathrooms and improvements to the patios, amongst others

Calvià Town Hall, through the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries, IMEB, has made an investment of 584.839 euros in the Infant and Primary Education Centres and in municipal Nursery Schools for the school year that has begun, to carry out some improvements according to the centres' requests.

As for the CEIPs, the IMEB has invested 338.457 euros to undertake mainly bathroom renewing works and remodeling and improvement works in patios, as well as interior and exterior repainting, construction or renewing of ramps, natural gas installation adjustments and leaks repair, amongst others.

On the other hand, Calvià Town Hall has already started with the air conditioning tasks of the municipal school nurseries, with an initial investment of 246.381 euros. In a first phase, the air conditioners will be installed in the nurseries of Santa Ponça, Es Molinet in Galatzó, Na Burguesa in Son Caliu and Es Vedellet in El Toro. In addition, the tender for the remaining 6 nurseries has already begun to carry out the installation in the following phases.

Inclusive patios

On the other hand, there are already 8 Infant and Primary School Centres that have received the municipal subsidy of 21.500 euros each within the framework of the Inclusive Playgrounds project.

This project arises as a result of two initiatives. On the one hand, due to the proposal made at the II Calvià Children's Council in which it was requested "that all schoolyards be fixed and modernised", and on the other, as a result of an initiative approved in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands. What is intended is to carry out interventions in the schoolyards to adapt them to the new needs, promote the pedagogical use of the different spaces that make up the schoolyard and prioritise the equal use of the patios common spaces.

Some of the actions that have been carried out are, for instance, the acquisition of giant games, climbing walls, more green areas, games painted on the ground, murals or outdoor furniture, amongst others.

The eight CEIPs that have already received this grant are: Son Caliu, Bendinat, Cas Saboners in Magaluf, Puig de sa Ginesta in Galatzó, Jaume I in Palmanova, Son Ferrer, Xaloc in Peguera and Puig de sa Morisca.
