30 YOUNG PEOPLE WHO LEFT THEIR STUDIES PREMATURELY ARE TRAINED IN CALVIÀ THROUGH THE PQI INITIAL QUALIFICATION PROJECTS
30 young people, between the ages of 16 and 21, are receiving training at the Calvià Training and Employment Institute (IFOC) centre in Son Ferrer, within the framework of the Initial Qualification Projects (PQI) that aim to train young people who have left the educational system prematurely so that they can continue their studies or give them tools to learn a trade for their insertion into the labour market.
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has visited the facilities this morning and has listened to the experience transmitted by the students who have, with this initiative, second chances to continue training and to prepare themselves to enter the job market. Amongst other things that they have commented, they have assured that they have gone from not having motivation in their studies, or believing that they were not doing anything useful, to feeling more motivated and wanting to continue training.
The visit was also attended by the president of the IFOC and deputy mayor for Education and Training, Olga Granados; the deputy mayor for Youth and Participation and vice-president of the IFOC, Marga Plomer; the councillor for Son Ferrer, Alfonso Molina, and the manager of the IFOC, Darío Espallargas.
In Calvià, two specialties are offered via professionalism certificates: a PQI as vehicle electromechanical maintenance assistant, which began in 1994, and another as Hairdressing Assistant that has a history of 6 years. With this training, they obtain the first level of Education for Adults and the level 1 Professionalism Certificate.
In addition, this year the implementation of a training programme has been consolidated, preferably for unemployed people, subsidised by the SOIB, which are a course on handling refrigeration systems that use fluorinated refrigerants intended for thermal comfort of people installed in vehicles, and a professionalism certificate in care and beauty of hands and feet. With these programmes, the aim is to increase the level of employability for the labour insertion of the students and professional improvement through the training actions that are carried out.
