The Municipal School of Music Joseph Rubio i Amengual started twenty years ago with the aim of teaching the musicians of the Municipal Band. It started with a group of about 50 pupils who received classes of four hours per week from 3 teachers. With the passage of time, the School has evolved to become a point of reference in the musical formation of the island. At the present time the School of Music has more than 230 pupils enrolled and with over thirty qualified teachers and soloists.
The Municipal School of Music not only offers formation and musical education to the residents, but it also collaborates with the municipal cultural programme, offering student auditions, end of course concerts, recordings ...
The result of this well carried out work is the Municipal School of Music, nearby, consolidated and well accepted, that reaches the different areas of our municipality and that, without doubt, forms one of the most attractive cultural options that the residents of the municipality can access, without forgetting the great educational strength that this project means.
The Municipal School of Music Josep Rubio i Amengual forms pupils of all ages, both young and adult, who are interested in receiving a musical education, both at a professional level or as a hobby for pleasure.
The Municipal School of Music has its head office in the old consistorial house, located in Calvia, and decentralized offices in Santa Ponsa and Bendinat.
Finally, it should be pointed out that the management of this service is carried out by the Association Pere Josep Canyelles that, as well as organizing and coordinating the work of the School, actively collaborates with the Town Hall in the organization of important activities like: the Opera of Calvià, the New Year's Concert, representation of the Adoration of the Kings.
The activities that these centres offer are directed to all the citizens of Calvia and also of other areas: children, young people and adults.
