Calvià Town Hall held a participatory intergenerational workshop, where 8 senior citizens and 8 young people from the municipality collaborated in the creation of what will be the poster for the 4th Senior Citizens’ Day Conference, which will take place on 26th September at the Sala Palmanova. This year's theme will be about elderly-friendly, kind and healthy municipalities. The Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park and the Social Intervention and Senior Citizens Service of Calvià Town Hall have joined forces to offer a collaborative and creative space in which some of the most outstanding heritage elements of Calvià have been explored and young and seniors have reflected together on the spaces that best represent the municipality.
By promoting intergenerational activities and encouraging the promotion and active participation of the elderly, a meeting has been developed to enjoy together, meet people from different areas of the municipality and work as a team, reflect together on the municipal heritage and collectively design a poster proposal.
As an introduction, participants have had a presentation on the heritage wealth of Calvià and an extension of the heritage concept that has been valued as very interesting, which expands the field of heritage beyond monuments and singular buildings to include the broader urban context, reaching the view that truly heritage is what the community recognises as such.
In addition to heritage monuments and elements, participants have mentioned everyday spaces, landscapes or personal memories that also make up the “Friendly Calvià” and “Unique municipality” in which, according to the participants, “we are lucky to live in”.
Amongst them, young people and seniors have chosen the view from the Oratorio de Portals (church), the rocks of Bendinat, the cloister of Calvià village church, the Puig de Galatzó, the sunsets, the Malgrats Islands, Es Molí des Castellet, the Finca Son Claret (estate), the Puig de na Bauçana (mountain), the ball de bot (traditional Majorcan dancing), the San Silvestre race, the Rei en Jaume festivities, the Fira de la Tardor (Autumn's Fair), the Fira d’ Oví i Caprí (Sheep and Goat Fair), Santa Ponça pinewood, the view from Santa Ponça large beach, the Creu del Puig de sa Morisca and the Cross of the Landing of Santa Ponça.
