Calvià cuts down two pine trees on Palmanova beach as part of the municipal urban tree evaluation plan.

  • This is a precautionary technical action framed within an ongoing review protocol to ensure the health and safety of the urban environment
  • The inspection plan also studies the restoration of spaces and assesses the possibility of replanting

Calvià Town Hall has cut down two pine trees in the Palmanova beach area following a technical inspection carried out as part of the plan to monitor and assess the state of urban trees. This intervention responds to road safety, risk prevention, and environmental health criteria, and is part of a protocol that the Town Hall maintains active throughout the year.

The action was carried out by the municipal brigade after verifying that the specimens showed clear signs of structural weakness and possible phytosanitary conditions that could pose a danger to pedestrians and vehicles in an area of high tourist influx.

"This type of interventions do not respond to arbitrary decisions, but to rigorous and planned technical work that seeks to protect people and at the same time take care of our environment," explained the Deputy Mayor for Maintenance and Urban Services, Manuel Mas, who wanted to emphasise that "the safety and environmental health of the municipality are a priority."

The inspection plan extends to all areas of the municipality, and not only focuses on identifying diseased trees or those at risk of falling, but also on studying the recovery of the spaces. Once the pine tree-cutting is complete, municipal technicians assess the possibility of replanting in the same location, choosing more suitable species based on the location, soil type, sun exposure, or wind conditions, amongst other factors.
