Nearly 100.000€ has been invested in more than 60 courses and workshops
The Galatzó Sports Pavilion in Calvià was full of people. More than 600 people from the municipality's 11 senior citizen associations took part on Friday in the closing ceremony for the workshops and courses before the summer break. The budget was close to 100.000€.
The Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, joked with the attendees: "You can feel the electricity in the air, your strength. "If I could connect you to the power grid, we would end electrical outages in Spain," he added, "when I grow up, I want to be like you."
"No politician has the experience you have. No politician can set measures for you without first listening to you. No politician can ignore you. You are the people who have built our municipality, the men and women who have made Calvià the great place it is. And you continue to do so with your positive attitude, with your advice, with your simple presence," he said.
There were exhibitions of yoga, ballroom dancing, Spanish dancing, memory and computer science workshops, gymnastics, craft and art exhibitions, and performances by the Son Caliu and El Toro choirs. This season, more than 60 courses and workshops have been organised for the municipality's senior citizens. They have been running since October 2024, at a rate of 100 hours per week, run by the Associació Factoria de Somnis.
