The Mayor of Calvià, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Education, Esperanza Català and the Councillor for Peguera, Cristina de León, has opened the new library in Peguera, situated in calle Malgrats, number 17, beside the medical centre.
Since 1991 until the present date, the Peguera library was located in rented premises. Now, with this move to municipal premises, there are a total of seven of Calvià's libraries situated in municipal premises (Calvià, Es Capdellà, Magaluf, Santa Ponça, Son Ferrer, Son Caliu and Peguera). The Illetes library remains in rented premises.
The new Peguera library consists of a surface of 130 sq. metres, divided into children's area, with furnishings adapted to different age groups, consultation area, area for reading magazines and press and computer area.
The number of readers using this library is, approximately, 300 per month. At present, there are more than 600 users with membership cards, with use of some 7000 books, 100 films and more than 500 music CDs. Generally, the Peguera library installations are used by children and adolescents between age 8 and 15, whilst adults make more use of the book lending service.
The new library will be offering its services from Monday to Saturday. Tuesday and Thursday in the afternoon, from 14.30h. to 20.15h. ; Wednesday and Friday in the morning, from 08.30h. to 14.15h., and Saturday from 09.00h. to 14.00h.
With the eight libraries which form the municipal network, a direct service to the different population zones has been achieved. In total, the eight libraries occupy an area of 832 sq. metres, with capacity for more than 250 users, with computers for users and material consisting of more than 63.800 books and 5.950 films.
