Calvià urges restaurants and hotels to offer gluten-free menus to improve the quality of life of celiacs
The Mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado and the vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Celiac Association of the Balearic Islands, Bartolomé Márquez, have signed, this morning, an agreement of collaboration to jointly carry out actions within the fields of catering and tourism with regard to celiacs.
Therefore, Calvià Town Hall, with the aim of improving the quality of life of celiacs, has launched the programme "Calvià sin gluten" (gluten-free Calvià), which hopes to persuade restaurateurs and hoteliers to offer gluten-free menus in order to guarantee that celiacs meet with no obstacles when visiting restaurants, bakers, ice-cream shops and hotels of the municipality.
So next Wednesday, 13th May, in the "salón de plenos" of the Town Hall there will be a formative meeting for the catering and hotel sector, explaining what celiacs are and the guidelines to follow to produce a reliable gluten-free menu. A talk will be given by staff of the Celiac Association of the Balearic Islands (ACIB), as a result of the agreement signed today. Furthermore, in the meeting, the Town Hall will encourage those present to join the municipal campaign "Calvià sin gluten" (gluten-free Calvià) and commit to offering menus adapted to the diet of celiacs. Once signed up, information leaflets will be published with the list of all participating establishments. The information will also be available on the website of the Celiac Association of the Balearic Islands where the project "Calvià sin gluten" (gluten-free Calvià) will be explained.
