The national athletes of the future got together this weekend and the Calvian, Bustos, proclaimed himself the 1.500 Promise Spanish Champion

Bustos wins the gold medal in the athletics track.

 

The Calvian athletics track, inaugurated last year together with the National Junior celebration, gained the attention of the national athletics, during the first weekend in July, with the Promise Spanish Championship celebration, where about 400 sub´23 (under 23 years old) cathegory athletes, participated.

From a sports point of view, the competition, got together the best of national promise athletes , with ages from 19 to 22. Amongst them, eleven Balearic athletes, of whom five belong to the ADA Calvià local club. Precisely, one of its runners, David Bustos, was one of the outstanding championship winners, proclaiming himself, in a difficult final, in the 1.500 Spanish Champion, overcoming by four hundredths of a second (3:57.59), to the Andalusian Kevin López. In the same race, Tomeu Rigo, also from ADA Calvià, signed an excellent fourth place.The rest of the local club athletes also competed on a good level. Begoña González got the sixth place in the 100 metres semifinals, whereas in the 200 metres, obtained the fifth place in the final race. Eva María Tur gained an outstanding seventh place in 10.000 walk and Rafael Quintana finished fifth in the 5.000 race.

Apart from the golden medal obtained by Bustos, it is to be mentioned the other four medals obtained by the Balearic representation. Francisco Colomar and Marina Petkova obtained silver in the 400 and 800 hurdle competition, respectively. José Ángel Pinedo achieved bronze in discus and Marta Pou also was third in the triple jump final (12.73, record on the Balearic Islands).

As happened last year, the Championship ended with great success in both, in organization and sport. During the two-day competition, the Magaluf athletics track stadium was practically full and the athletes, once again were enthusiastic with the excellent installation conditions.
