The Rei En Jaume awards , organized by the Calvian Town Hall Culture Department, count with a high participation, especially since 2006, when the Mayor Carlos Delgado´s government team made important updates to give a notable boost to these awards.

Therefore , one of the main actions was the creation of the Art category where various artistic creations such as painting, sculpture, photography, graphic arts, installation, etc, were included in this mentioned category. In 2006, Castellano, was introduced in this event, in the narrative and poetry category, which meant a notable increase in the participation of people from out of the islands; up to then, only Catalan was the language used in this competition. In 2007, two prizes were awarded in each of the previous categories, for the best literary work in Castellano and in Catalan, increasing , therefore, the participation. And in 2008 a big step was made for the International awards, creating the English Poetry category.

Regarding to this year, the Art category continues being the one with most participation, with a total of 159 artists, followed by the Poetry competition with 65 literary works to be competing, from which 37 are in Castellano; 20 in Catalan and 8 in English. Also, it is to be highlighted the great participation of Mallorquin artists in the different categories. Thus, for instance, in Art, 96 literary works from the 159 presented are from Mallorca and from which 22 are from Calvià; there are 8 Mallorcan artists in Comic; also the 2 in Investigation are from the island, whereas in the Catalan Narrative category, 8 from the 11 literary works presented are from Cataluña and in the Catalan Poetry, 6 literary works are originally from the island, 8 from Cataluña, 4 from Valencia, 1 from Menorca and 1 from Castilla La Mancha.
