The International Amateur Open and the under 16 and under 10 International Festival have been celebrated at the Sala Palmanova this weekend
For the seventh consecutive year, Calvià has become a big chessboard with the International Amateur Open and the under 16 and under 10 International Festival´s competition, which has got together more than 200 players from 18 countries. As in the six previous editions, the Calvià Chess Festival has remained faithful to its foundation motto "Chess for all", opening the doors of this strategic sport to players of different ages, strengthening at the same time the commitment with the celebration of events that avoid the tourist seasonal standstill. In fact, during the celebration of the competition, about 1.000 hotel accommodations have been generated.
About 120 players have participated in the International Amateur Open, celebrated between 9th and 17th October. A competition in which a total of 6.800 euros have been shared out in prizes. The under 16 and under 10 Festival, also welcomed another hundred participants, between 10th , 11th and 12th October, in a tournament using the Swiss system, of seven rounds in two groups and another one of fast games.
Organised by Foundation Calvià 2004 and the Town Hall, the present International Chess Festival´s edition has counted with the collaboration of Pirates, Soft Line, Sa Nostra, El Corte Inglés, Pepsi, Chess Base, Restaurante Alt Vien and Autocares Emilio Seco.
