Within the International Day against violence towards the woman, a conference about Gender Violence, organised by the Social Welfare and Health Department was celebrated in Calvià, last Friday.

The Deputy Mayor for Social Services, Cristina de León, presented both, the benefits and the team that make up the Social Service, towards the women, victims of violence and the minors under their charge. Regarding this matter, it is to be mentioned that, since 2006 a total of 125 cases have been attended within this service, from which 25 have been notified this year.

For the technical experts in Calvià, it is very important the support given to the children of mentioned women, who are considerated victims, when the violence is present in a family. Therefore, the carried out annual study, collects, furthermore, the indicator of children, present during the mistreatment, giving a result of 54,16%.  

Also, during the conference, the municipal psychologist, Loreto Sierra, presented a speech about "The group psychological intervention with women victims of gender violence" to, after, give way to a round table about "I, as a woman who has been a victim, I want to tell you...." in which a debate was created between four women, ex victims of violence and technical experts of different fields (health primary assistance, Civil Guard, Local Police, Balearic Institute for Women´s shelter centre, municipal social services and crime victims assistance office)

The main conclusions resulting from the conference were, the necessity of spreading the information about the existing women´s aid resources; the necessity of support within the children´s attention during the process; warn the young people and women, of the first signs of mistreatment or the need to inform the victim and to accompany her, during the whole process, in between others. 

The conference counted with a great number of public, in between them, technical experts in Education, Health, Social Services, Women´s Associations and citizens with special interest in the matter. Furthermore, the petition of continuing with these gatherings, made by both, women and professionals present at the conference, has been collected by Social Services.
