The hoteliers and main European tour-operators know first-hand the athletics track, the rugby pitch and the Galatzó public estate
The presidents of the five hotel associations in Calvià, hoteliers from the municipality and representatives of the main tour-operators dealing on the Balearic Islands had the opportunity of visiting two of the main sports facilities in the municipality, on Thursday: the athletics track, the natural turf football pitch and the rugby pitch as well as the Galatzó public estate, accompanied by the Mayor, Carlos Delgado; the director for Tourism, Jaime Martínez and the ICE manager, Manuel Onieva.
This is the sixth gathering with hoteliers and tour-operators organized by the Calvià Town Hall, the previous one was celebrated at the Sala Palma Nova, in October and in this occasion Carlos Delgado wanted to show them first-hand, the main tourist products which the Town Hall is working with to attract tourists after the high season. Thus, sport and nature occupy an outstanding place within the tourist promotion which the Town Hall carries out at the attending tourist fairs and workshops.
The athletics track is working at full capacity since it was inaugurated in July 2009. Up to now, two national championships have been celebrated and during the winter months it holds numerous Spanish and Central European athletic and football teams. From 26th to 30th December it is due to take place a middle distance track Spanish section´s gathering and at the same time, the 20 best athletic trainers in Spain will meet in the conferences to be celebrated at the track. From January, German and Swiss football teams will train at the natural turf football pitch and another 400 more athletes coming from these same countries will arrive in the months of March and April.
The rugby pitch, which was inaugurated on 20th November, also has a schedule organized for the forthcoming months. Due to the recently signing of three agreements by the Mayor at the London tourist fair, two tournaments will be celebrated between 23rd and 24th April and 28th and 29th May 2011, as well as the Majorca Beach Rugby tournament, which will take place 30th April and 1st and 2nd May on the Magaluf beach. In total, 40 rugby teams and about 1.000 people will meet in Calvià during mentioned dates.
The presidents of the five hotel associations in the municipality, Miguel Ángel Jiménez from Peguera; Sebastià Darder from Palmanova-Magaluf; Antoni Roses from Santa Ponça; Martí Xamena from Illetes and Joanna Köhnen from Portals, attended the visit to the sports facilities and the Galatzó Public Estate. On the tour-operators side, representatives of TUI, Thomas Cook England and Germany, Soltur, Cosmos, Low-Cost Holidays, Monarch and also the Mice Media incentives company, also attended the visit.
At the end of the conference, the attendants, highlighted the visit´s great success, given that they had the opportunity of seeing the municipality´s main sports facilities and knowing first-hand the tourist products which the Town Hall is working with to achieve the tourist destationalization.
