The Junior and Promise categories best athletes in Spain will train at the athletics track in Calvià

The best athletes in Spain of both categories Junior (18-19 years) and Promise (20, 21 and 22 years), get together these days in Calvià within the middle distance track sector´s Christmas preparation organised by the Athletics Spanish Real Federation. Since yesterday, these young athletes are training at the athletics track in Magaluf under the prestigious trainer´s, Mariano García Verdugo, attentive supervision, and will do so, until the forthcoming Thursday, 30th December.

The Calvià´s brand-new athletics track welcomes athletes such as David Bustos, Kevin López, Atteneri Tur or Marina Petkova. The Majorcan, David Bustos, from the club ADA Calvià, is the current Hispanic champion, the 7th World Champion in 800m covered track and Junior Europe Champion in 1500m. Kevin López is the current 800m absolute champion in Spain, Europe Champion in 800m junior and 6th Absolute Europe Champion in 800m. Atteneri Tur, from Ibiza, has been International junior with the Spanish team, in the last cross-country Europe Championship celebrated in Albufeira (Portugal), just two weeks ago. Marina Petkova also lives in Majorca and is an outstanding athlete in 800m. All the participants of this gathering are staying in a hotel in the municipality, where they can rest and complement their preparation with technical talks.

Together with the athletes, also outstands the presence of a great group of trainers, in between them, Francisco Gil (Kevin López and Luis Alberto Marco´s trainer), Mayte Zúñiga (current 800m national record-holder), Antonio Sánchez Vargas (olympic in Moscú 1980), Toni Roig ( trainer in the past of Felipe Vivancos, from Ibiza, in between many others) or Johny Ouriaghli ( David Bustos and Atteneri Tur´s trainer). In total, more than twenty trainers who during these days will take the opportunity to celebrate a series of technical and debate conferences regarding themes such as the training of the resistance, strength and speed for the middle distance track.

The main aim of this gathering is to prepare the athletes for the two most important commitments of the season: the Junior Europe Championship (Tallín) and the under 23 Europe Championship (Ostrava), both to take place, the forthcoming month of July.
