The delay in the opening of the Santa Ponça and Peguera swimming-pools is caused by technical problems detected in the heating system of both, the swimming-pools water and the changing rooms sanitary hot water, in other words, the Biomass renewable energy system, which they relied on for both swimming-pools as it is 100% respectful with the environment and allows an important economical saving of fuel, which, in both cases, can stand at about 40.000 euros yearly.

This new Biomass system, which uses pellets, almond shells, olive stones or carob as biofuel products, is only used in the Balearic community, in these two new municipal facilities in Calvià. Therefore, the municipality has become pioneer within the use of new renewable energy systems. However, the starting-up of pioneer systems, involves, some times, facing to unexpected problems and carry out adjustments, which has happened in both facilities.  

The government team, directed by the Mayor Carlos Delgado, wants to highlight that since the first problems were detected, the municipal technicians and the people responsible of mentioned heating system company, are working intensively to solve the problem and open the swimming-pools to the public, as soon as possible. Also, it is to be mentioned that both swimming-pools were inaugurated the 2^nd and 16^th November, respectively, after the responsible technicians approval and that the technical problems occurred after being inaugurated.

Finally, it is to be highlighted that the repairs and works that are being carried out to solve these technical problems detected, will not suppose an additional cost for the municipal coffers.

Despite the functioning delay, the government team highlights the success achieved with the construction, in the present legislature, of these and many other first level sports facilities, making the municipality of Calvià a reference within the sports offer.
