The Mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado, who attended Fitur together with the Town Hall´s Director for Tourism, Jaime Martínez, learnt about Calvià´s candidacy admission during the course of the meeting held with the manager of the Spanish Association of Nautical Sports Resorts, Rafael Moreno. As stated by Rafael Moreno, Calvià, with its 54 kilometre coast and its five marinas which add up to a total of 1.739 moors, fulfills all the requirements for the practice of nautical and water sports and, for this reason, and with the aim of diversifying its offer and alleviate the tourist seasonal standstill, the Calvià Town Hall requested the admittance to mentioned network , which offers a guarantee of quality for the service users.

During the course of the forthcoming months, the Town Hall, the Nautical Sports Resorts Association and the private sector will carry out the necessary works to achieve the definitive distinctive, confirming Calvià as a nautical destination of reference. In fact, it is to be highlighted that the Spanish Association of Nautical Sports Resorts, has outstanding rigorous quality standards which their fulfillment is a condition to take part of mentioned network. Now, after the candidacy´s admittance, the Town Hall will keep working to position the nautical tourism as another advantage, added to its beach tourist offer.

Carlos Delgado coincided with Rafael Moreno in highlighting that, the nautical tourism offers a great opportunity to dynamize the sector and that not only helps to diversify the offer but also reinforce the image of quality given, create new values and extend the tourist season.

An important level of activity is carried out during the low season months, within the nautical destinations, as it is in this period of time, when vessel maintenance, hibernation or repair works are carried out. Furthermore, the celebration of big sport events can also take place during those months, therefore alleviating the tourist seasonal standstill.

Apart from the meeting with the Spanish Association of Nautical Sports Resorts manager, the Mayor had the opportunity of meeting with the Calvià hoteliers, who travelled to Madrid. The practice of sports and the activities surrounded by nature, apart from its excellent beaches and its first level complementary and hotel offer, have been, once more, the pillars of the Calvià´s tourist promotion in Fitur, to continue being a first level destination in the Mediterranean.

Furthermore, the Town Hall also took advantage of Fitur, to continue with the promotion of another big tourist attraction in Calvià, the Galatzó public estate, essential for all hiking, cycling and nature lovers.
