Calvià is the only municipality on the Balearic Islands acknowledged with the "Q" for Tourist Quality, for three of its beaches: Palmanova, Palmira and Santa Ponça
The Palmira beach, in Peguera, has renewed one more year, the "Q" for Tourist Quality during the course of 2010 and, for that reason, the Deputy Mayor for coast lines, Bartolomé Bonafé, travelled to Madrid last week where he attended the “Q Night” to receive from the Secretary General for Tourism, Joan Mesquida, the certificate for mentioned beach.
Calvià is the only municipality on the Balearic Islands acknowledged with the "Q" for Tourist Quality for three of its beaches. Apart from Palmira, which counts with this quality certificate since 2005, the beaches of Palmanova and Santa Ponça also hold mentioned award, which they obtained for the first time in 2004 and 2009, respectively.
This distinctive, awarded by the Instituto para la Calidad Turística Española (ICTE) (Institute for the Spanish Tourist Quality), offers a quality system forwarded to the tourist enjoyment of the beaches from the respect for the environmental values and the ecosystems sustainability.
The "Q" for Quality gala, held at the Santiago Bernabéu´s stadium royal box , counted with the attendance of more than 1.300 people and during the course of the event, the ICTE president, Miguel Mirones, expressed his satisfaction about the increase of the new certifications. In total, the certificates were presented to the 923 entities which obtained or renewed the "Q" for Tourist Quality during the course of 2010.
