Under rainy skies, the approx. 500 people that attended honored the memory of Diego Salvà and Carlos Sáenz de Tejada, the two Guardia Civil agents who lost their lives in the brutal terrorist attack that occurred in Calvià in July 2009.
The memorial began with the hissing of the Spanish flag at the round-about in Palmanova. The mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, reminded attendants in his speech of the importance of the work and value of the Guardia Civil , as well as remembering the strength and unity the community of Calvià demonstrated on that fatal day.
The father of Diego Salvà, Antonio Salvà, as well as the president of the Balearic Government José Ramón Bauzà, government speaker Ramón Socías, and the president of the Basque PP Antonio Basagoiti offered words of rememberance for the two Guardi Civil agents, and proclaimed the end of ETA.
The memorial ended with the laying of a wreath at the monument for the assassinated Guardia Cilvil agents by the father of Diego Salvà, José Ramón Bauzà and Manuel Onieva.
