The Calvià Town Hall´s extraordinary plenary has approved the freezing of the IBI (property tax) during the forthcoming four years by means of a bonus, this morning
The Calvià Town Hall´s plenary has approved ,unanimously, the proposal made by the Government team, headed by the Mayor, Manuel Onieva, through which the freezing of the Property Tax (IBI) receipt will be accomplished for the forthcoming four years.
The municipal legal and economic services have worked intensively during the last months with the aim of finding a formula capable of taking forward this initiative. Finally, the bonus system within the tax´s total fee has been chosen as, given that the consistory only has authority to modify the tax rate, if this system was chosen and one same rate was established in the whole municipality, unfair advantages between the different localities in the municipality would have happened and the objective of maintaining to zero the increase during the forthcoming period would not have been achieved. However, through the bonus, the Calvià neighbours will receive an economic compensation in the same receipt which will answer to the positive difference between the total fee of this year and last year´s tax.
Through this measure, responsibles of the municipality want to support both, neighbours and businessmen of the municipal district in these complicated moments of economic crisis in which the whole country is submerged in, and therefore, a tremendous effort has been made as the situation of the municipal coffers in Calvià is not alien to the lack of income which all the public administrations in Spain are living.
Even so, it has been considered essential, alleviate the citizens tax-wise, specially with the most important tax with which any Town Hall counts with. It is about helping the Calvian and create confidence amongst the business sector with the aim of improving, as far as possible, the municipality´s economic situation.
