The Town Hall´s Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare, Cristina de León, presented the benefits of the Social Service Department, towards women, victims of gender violence and the minors under their charge.

2nd Conference against Gender Violence in Calvià.

The Social Services Municipal Centre in Palmanova was the place chosen to hold the 2nd Conference about Gender Violence in Calvià, organised by the Social Welfare and Health Department, within the International Day against violence towards women, this morning.

The Town Hall´s Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare and Health, Cristina de León, presented the benefits of the Social Service Department, towards women, victims of gender violence and the minors under their charge, who in this second conference, were outstanding. Regarding this matter, it is to be mentioned that, since 2006 a total of 167 cases have been attended to within this service, from which 42 have been notified this year.

During the course of the Conference, the municipal social worker, Laura Hidalgo, presented a speech about "Protocolo de intervención con los menores" “Plan of action with the minors” and both, Laura González and Eneko Caballero, also from the Town Hall´s Social Welfare and Health Department, presented a speech under the title "La intervención grupal psicológica y educativa con menores de familias de víctimas de violencia de género en servicios sociales municipales" (The psychological and educational group plan of action with the minors of the gender violence victims at the Municipal Social Services).

After, they gave way to a round table in which a debate was created between, ex victims of violence and technical experts of different fields: (Civil Guard, Local Police, Balearic Institute for Women´s shelter centre, municipal social services and crime victims assistance office).

The conference counted with a great number of public, in between them, technical experts in Education, Health, Social Services, Women´s Associations and anonymous citizens with special interest in the matter. The Social Services Department committed to continue with the organization of these gatherings.
