Calvià is promoted in Fitur.

The Mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Eugenia Frau, was present at Fitur, the most important tourist fair nation wide, to promote the municipality and present the working lines for the forthcoming years.

The plan of action foresees, within a short period of time, boosting three important key products with the aim of alleviating the tourist seasonal standstill. These are as follows:

  • Cycle tourism: Currently, our municipality counts with more than twenty hotel establishments with facilities suitable for amateur or professional teams who use Calvià as a starting point for their pre-seasons.

  • Hiking: A network of roads, correctly indicated, have been provided throughout the municipality, where tourists can enjoy combining nature and history. Two examples are, the routes of Jaume I and the Galatzó Public Estate. Also, bird watching points have been incorporated in all the routes, what is known as Birding, a product with an important demand in countries such as: Germany, Great Britain and Holand etc.

  • Sport facilities: We count with at least one tennis court and one football pitch in all and each of our destinations, within 10 minutes walk from any of the hotel establishments, which have been used by more than 1.500 tourists in 2011. Also, we count with the Magaluf´s athletics track which offers one of the most modern facilities in Europe and which together with our good climate, is ideal for the athletes training sessions. Within the athletics track, we can find the natural turf football pitch which, every winter, gathers various German professional teams. Finally, another first level sport facility is the rugby pitch, located in Son Caliu, with state of the art artificial grass, and which is being promoted in countries with great tradition within this sport such as, Wales, Ireland or Scotland.

All these products are already being promoted at the different fairs, workshops, presentations and through specialised or general press and they will continue to do so, during this year 2012.

All the services which up to now have been given, will continue to do so, despite the reduction in the Municipal Budget´s allocation, assigned to the tourist promotion for 2012. The products that Calvià can offer, have been studied, in order to find the differences between the different competitors. Finally, a marketing plan, focused on a global destination, has been agreed with the main tourist agents, and which expects to give support to the municipality´s businessmen.
