Tomorrow 27th March, the Theatre´s International Day will be cellebrated around the world and this year is a special date as it is the 50th anniversary since its founding by the UNESCO´s Theatre Institute. Once more, Calvià will join this anniversary.

Every year, a message is announced by an important figure of the theatre world and in 2012 this honour has gone to the actor John Malkovich.

This is his message:

The 50th anniversary message of the Theatre´s International Day

"The UNESCO´s International Theater Institute, has given me the honour to send this greeting for the 50
th anniversary of the Theatre´s International Day. I will address my brief words to my theatre colleagues, my equals and my friends.

Probably, your work is convincing and original. It could be deep, exciting, contemplative and unique. Probably, it could help us to think about what means being a human being, and it could be that the reflexion is guided by the heart, the sincerity, the frankness and the elegance. You could overcome the adversity, the censorhip, the poverty and the nihilism, as many of you will be obligated to do it. You could be blessed by both, the talent and the rigor to show us all about the human heartbeat, in all its complexity, and the humility and the curiosity to convert it in the play of our lives. And it could be that the best of you all – because only the best of you all, and even then only in the most exceptional and brief moments- you will be able to ask the most basic question, How do we live? ’ Have a good journey!"

Calvià cellebrates the International Theater Day with a varied programme:

  • Last Saturday 17th March, the ATAPIB's Musical and Scenic Arts Awards event took place in its sixth anniversary.

  • Sunday 1st April: "Mala-bar". Four unknown people meet in a bar: a waiter, a musician, a French tourist and a circus "celebrity".
In order to avoid the musician´s songs, the rest will have to demonstrate their abilities performing circus shows and thus entertain the attending public.
