The Calvià Sports Centre will come to be known with the name of the Calvian swimmer, the world runner-up in the 400 metres free-style and who has participated in the two last Olympic Games.

The Calvià Town Hall's plenary session held this morning has approved to nominate the Calvià Sports Centre with the name of Melani Costa, the Calvian olympic swimmer who was proclaimed the world runner-up in the 400 metres free-style in the last World Swimming Championship held in Barcelona, as well as gold medallist in the World Cup Championship in Moscow. Furthermore, she has participated in the two last Olympic Games.

The nomination arises from the initiative of the Government Team together with the Club Natación Calvià joining therefore the name of the most recognised Calvian swimmer worldwide with the municipal sports centre which has witnessed her first strokes, highlighting therefore her effort and perseverance when working to reach her goals as a sportswoman and become an example for the youth of our municipality.

The Mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, highlights that "Melani always takes the name of Calvià with her wherever she competes and she has always been proud of being a Calvian" at the same time he hopes that "our young community, who every day uses this sports complex, when seeing her name, will have in mind the sacrifice, work, ambition and discipline which she has carried out throughout the years and thus, also make their dreams come true".
