Three more flags have been achieved this year with regards to 2013. The municipality is placed at the top of the ranking of the Balearic Islands and in second place nationwide
One more Summer, Calvià will be the municipality of the Balearic Islands holding more blue flags flying on its beaches. The Association for the Environmental and the Consumers Education (ADEAC) has awarded 10 beaches of Calvià, distinguishing the beaches and marinas fulfilling the excellence criteria of the quality of the water, the environmental regulations and the adequate sanitary and security infrastructure. The beaches holding a blue flag are: Palmira, Torà, Romana, Santa Ponça, Son Matías, Palmanova, Es Carregador, Oratori, Cala Vinyes and Ses Penyes Rotges.
This year, Calvià has achieved to hold the flag record, reaching the amount of 10 and also to be placed in second place nationwide together with Cartagena (Murcia) and Cangas del Morrazo (Pontevedra).
Also, it is to be recalled that the municipality is achieving prestige internationalwide thanks to its commitment with the accessible tourism. In fact, four beaches are totally adapted: Son Matías, El Toro, Palmanova and Santa Ponça. All of them provided with wood paths, adapted toilets, shaded areas and delimited spaces for people with reduced mobility. Also, an elevator was installed, recently, on the beach in Ca's Català.
The municipal government team, directed by Manuel Onieva, has shown its satisfaction for the International recognition for the work carried out on the Calvià beaches while has highlighted that they will improve “even more” the efforts to maintain the beaches in perfect quality, health, accessibility and cleanliness conditions.
