It intends to promote the collaboration amongst both administrations to improve the mechanics within the authorisation and control of the parking cards for people with serious mobility problems

The Minister for Social Services and Family, Sandra Fernández, and the Mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, have signed an agreement with the aim of promoting the collaboration amongst both administrations to improve the mechanics within the authorisation and control of the parking cards for people with serious mobility problems. This way, it answers to the requests made in this sense by the collective.

With the agreement signed today, it is intended to -apart from making easier the authorisation of these licenses- establish a system of supervision which contributes to the good use of the parking cards and which avoids the cases of fraud which, sometimes, have been registered and denounced by those associations representing the people with mobility problems.

In fact, this initiative answers, aboveall, to the repeated requests of various entities, whose members sometimes have difficulties to have access to a parking place occupied by other user, and, sometimes, by people who use these cards not being justifyied their physical condition.

In this sense, the minister has highlighted that the agreement expects to reinforce the union of the efforts of the municipality, through the Local Police; and the Ministry, through the Centro Base, to “make easier and more effective the formalities for the authorisation and also the control in the use of these cards".

Issue of cards

Currently, the Calvià Town Hall, through the Local Police, issues parking cards for those people having the legal condition of disability and whom prove serious mobility problems. This situation is proven through a technical report of the Centro Base de Atención a Personas con Discapacidad, of the Regional Ministry for Social Services and Family.

From now on and with the aim of establishing a system of supervision which contributes to the good use of the cards, the Centro Base will elaborate a specific report about the existence of serious mobility problems. This report will also establish if the problems are permanent or transitory.

Also, the Regional Ministry will inform the Local Police of Calvià of the possible incidents produced in the files of the people with disability and serious mobility problems and whom could have consequences in the authorisation or the renewal of the cards.

On their behalf, the Local Police will facilitate to the Centro Base a list of the parking cards issued by the Town Hall in order to confirm, with the data of disability gathered in the report, that the legal requirements are fulfilled and that the correct use of the parking licenses is made.
