The signing of this agreement is very important for Calvia being one of only two municipalities, the other being Formentera, where this pilot project is being introduced, with the idea of extending it in the future to the rest of the Balearic Islands and above all the to Northern Community.

The programme "Digital City" consists of a collection of proceedings leading to define a global framework that provides the implementation  of the necessary applications in order to develop in the different areas of the project: education, turism, administration and citizens on line.

In this way the schools in Calvia will be able to have, thanks to the implementation of this project, computers and internet access by ADSL. Furthermore the Website home page "Schools on the Net" will offer services which will go from administration links with the school, to being able to share school knowledge and to get the schools activities closer to the families.  At the same time it will try to organize training courses on how to use a computer and internet and also specific courses for hotel management and inovation in tourism.

As far as tourism is concerned, the project "Digital City" will mean that Calvia will be able to extend its existing platforms for tourist promotion, boosting the presence  of the local tourist companies on the internet and offer a space dedicated to cultural information, amongst other things.  The creation of an accomodation guide and a reservation system is also planned.

As far as the administration section is concerned, the setting up of the project "City Digital" will make the development of internal procedures easier and also facilitate the provision of services on the Internet.  In this way the inhabiltants can undertake multiple procedures without having to travel to the Town Hall.

Finally in the section of Citizens on Line, we aspire to have the participation of the citizen and that Internet becomes a meeting point for the social life in Calvia.
