Calvià Town Hall is finalizing preparations to experience the high point of the festivities that commemorate the 797th anniversary of the landing of King En Jaume. This Saturday, September 5th, Santa Ponça will once again be the stage for a spectacular historical reenactment, mobilizing 1.500 participants from 22 groups (13 Christian and 9 Moorish).
This grand parade has once again established itself as the central and most popular event of the festivities. This year, the role of King En Jaume will be played by Mateo García Bennàssar, from the Berenguer de Palou group, while the Moorish King Abu-Yahya will be portrayed by Óscar Blanco Domingo, from the Ali Oli group.
The landing of Jaume I and his troops is scheduled for around 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Ponça Yacht Club. From this arrival point, the Christian army will advance to the esplanade of the Landing Cross, where the first armed clash and skirmish with the Moorish forces will take place.
After this initial contact, both armies will march under a truce and apparent peace to Caló d’en Pellicer beach, the site of the second confrontation of the day. Afterwards, the troops will march together to the main beach of Santa Ponça.
As night falls, the sandy shore of Santa Ponça beach will host the climactic moment of the reenactment: the final face-to-face duel between King En Jaume and Abu-Yahya. The battle will symbolically decide the fate of the kingdom with a historic Christian victory, unless history takes an unexpected turn this year.
The festive evening will be rounded out with a dynamic programme of live musical performances and the traditional medieval market set up on the seafront promenade, offering locals and visitors a complete and immersive cultural experience.
