The Calvià Town Hall has received the distinction of ‘Good practices in favour of the Childhood and Youth', according to the jury's resolution of the 'VII Competition of Good Practices in favour of the Children's Rights' which organizes the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund- UNICEF- Spain, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).

The project awarded has been the Early Childhood's Interdisciplinary Commission of the Social Welfare Service, which is aimed at children of between 0 and 6 years old of the areas of Palmanova, Magaluf and Son Caliu of the municipality of Calvià. Its main aim is to promote the children's welfare through actions from the health, social and educational field in a network space of those services which work with the early childhood of said areas. The project arises from a proposal of the Municipal Social Services in 2011 with the purpose of connecting all those professionals with the same population group of reference to a particular territory.

The Social Welfare and Health Service, through the Municipal Centre of Social Services of Palmanova, the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries through the municipal nursery schools of Magaluf, Palmanova and Son Caliu and the Local Police of Calvià have been the municipal bodies sharing their working space with the school centres of said areas, pedagogues of the Regional Ministry for Education as well as with the Health Centre of Palmanova and the Child Protection and Family Care Service of the Majorcan Institute of Social Affairs.

The municipality of Calvià has received this distinction together with other 36 initiatives carried out by Local Governments and other public and private entities nationwide.

The Good Practices distinction has been presented this morning at an institutional event in Guadalajara, a Child Friendly City, which for this purpose UNICEF-Spain has organized and which has been collected by the Deputy Mayor for Social Services and Social Welfare, Cristina de León.
