The A2 cruise ships will be incorporated to the fleet of vessels which will recreate one more year the route of the Conqueror in the XXIX Rei en Jaume Height Regatta. The traditional race organised by the sailing clubs of Santa Ponça and Salou, with the collaboration of the Port Adriano and Port Tarraco marinas, is due to be held between 10th and 12th September.

The main novelty presented by the event in its 29th edition is the decision of making the announcement extensive to those cruise ships with reduced crew. Ricardo Ferrer, manager of the Sailing Club of Santa Ponça, stated that “the race has been consolidated with the annual participation of twenty vessels and with the incorporation of the A2 we want to favour a greater participation and mantain the event's attractiveness”.

The Rei en Jaume Regatta is one of the most exceptional yacht races which are organised annualy, punctuable for the Height Spanish Championship, Mediterranean Zone. Its commemorative character, recreates the 110 nautical mile-route which in 1229 the Conqueror covered to disembark in Mallorca; the fact of favouring the twinning between the areas of Calvià and Salou, and the participation of the enthusiast crews and their families have contributed to consolidate the longevity of a race which bets for its continuity.

In that line, Ferrer recalls that during the last years the Rei en Jaume Regatta has experienced a series of significant changes with the increase of the length of the participating vessels, thanks to the collaboration of Port Adriano and Port Tarraco; the introduction in the honor roll of new categories of trophies; and the incorporation of the sailing-tracking system, which allows to follow the race (in real time) through the Sailing Club of Santa Ponça web page, www.cnsp.es.

With regards to both, the technology and the GPS devices, Ferrer assures that, “not only allow to obtain real-time information of the vessels' progresses, positions and all what occurs in the itinerary which connects the coast lines of Salou and Santa Ponça, but also the level of security of the race has increased significantly”, he explains.
