THE CALVIÀ TOWN HALL INFORMS THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENT'S DIRECTOR GENERAL FOR TRANSPORT OF THE NECESSITIES OF THE MUNICIPALITY IN MATTERS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Both, the Town Hall and the Regional Government commit to exercise a greater control over VTC licenses in the next traffic police unit which will be created in the municipality.

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, held a meeting with the Government of the Balearic Islands' Director General for Transport, Jaume Mateu, to inform him of the most important necessities that the municipality has in matters of public transport.

Both administrations have agreed to undertake a control of the licenses of those vehicles with driver and minibuses offering transfers. The commitment is to undertake this type of actions between the General Directorate and the Traffic Unit of the Local Police which will be created shortly in the municipality with the start up of the Community Police.

In this sense, the Mayor has also put on the table the possibility that the regulations can again allow the grant of licenses to 7-seater taxis (driver+6 passangers), in order to facilitate the trips to large families. An aspect which depends on an autonomous regulation which will be studied by the General Directorate.

At the work meeting, they have also analysed the requests of the municipality with regards to the inter-city bus lines. In this sense, from Calvià it has been requested to recuperate the entrance of the line 104 in Son Ferrer and Costa de la Calma, so that the citizens and tourists who need to travel in this bus, do not have to walk a long distance. It has also been requested to solve the lack of a direct connection between Calvià and the Hospital of reference of Son Espases, such as existed with the Hospital of Son Dureta.

The Mayor has thanked the receptiveness of the Director General for Transport of the Regional Government to the requests of Calvià which he has committed to study in order to give a solution to the citizens of the municipality.

The meeting was also attended by Juan Cuadros, Deputy Mayor for Mobility, Works and Highways, and Maintenance.
