An awareness programme will be introduced to prevent mistreatment situations and child abuse
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, held a meeting with the president of the Foundation Rana, Elizabeth Homberg. The opening of a collaboration channel amongst the Town Hall and the Foundation has been proposed at the meeting, so that from the departments of Education and Social Services can plan actions in primary education centres, which include training not only for teachers but also for parents and pupils.
Firstly, they will arrange with the schools the best way to undertake this series of formative actions, which costs will be assumed by the Town Hall. Currently, this type of programmes do not exist in Calvià.
The Foundation Rana (Abused Children Helping Network) is a Balearic non profit association which its social function is to prevent the mistreatment and the child sexual abuse through awareness and education activities. The Foundation Rana works to create a better future, where they respect the children's rights and protect them from any situation which can derive in mistreatment or abuse.
Furthermore, they spoke about the possibility of undertaking exceptional actions such as the activity of story-telling in libraries of the municipality.
The Foundation Rana has the project ¡Grita muy Fuerte! which contributes to raise awareness amongst the children and so they can identify themselves in different mistreatment and abuse situations and learn how to react. The creation of this project starts from the storytale ¡Estela, grita muy fuerte!, where the author, Isabel Olid, offers to boys and girls a tool to teach them how to respect themselves.
The meeting was also attended by Nati Francés, Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion; Mayte Albertí, Councillor for Social Services and Senior Citizens; Ana Pérez, Director General for Social Development and Equity; and Cristina Gamundí, psychologist. On the part of Foundation Rana also attended the meeting Patricia Moliner, responsible for Projects.
